Had a long night last night and worst of all lost a good neighbor. Check your trees Oppos, and especially check for movement or any settling around the roots with all the rain. Tree that fell was healthy and the arborist was at our neighbor’s place two weeks ago. Be excellent to others for her . Some Warren Zevon for your time.

That’s very sad.

Yeah, especially since 2ft either side would have had her out on the front porch laughing about a lucky escape while we tried to tarp over the roof and clean up the mess . Life’s a bear sometimes and it sucks.

Just a reminder that life is a total crapshoot of random events. I work in claims and see events every day where someone leaves home like normal and doesn’t come back. I have their images seared into my memory.

I can only imagine that being a paramedic/first responder is way, way worse.  I can always close the image and walk to starbucks, they have to deal with the sights, sounds, smells etc that go with it.

I’ve been thinking about this for the past few months since it’s rained a lot. I remember the summer of 2003 being very similar to this one, weather-wise, and that September was when Hurricane  Isabel wrought havoc on the area. Uprooted trees everywhere.

For sure. I couldn’t have imagined having to go in there - my sump pump broke so I got home from Home Depot as our other neighbors were on the phone with 911. I was hopeful but pretty much knew the gig was up when the other neighbors (one of whom is a nurse) came out and didn’t start asking for tools/help to get her out straight away.

First responders are good people - and it’s gotta be tough when the outcome isn’t great. Can’t fault their efforts last night - they did a great job helping her family, keeping the scene secure, keeping themselves safe and getting her out as quickly as possible.

Yeah the weather this year has been crazy.   I’m not looking forward to the winter - we are in a bit of a hollow but the ground is so soggy at the moment I’m nervous about when the wind picks up.

We have had 9 inches of rain in the last 3 days.  And I am here to tell you that is too much.  The week before my neighborhood flooded after we got 3 inches of rain in 45 minutes.  It’s been wacky and isn’t supposed to stop raining until late NEXT week.

Yeah I remember the weather being crap here when I used to travel here for work back in the aughties , but not this bad .  I can’t wait to get out of here - hopefully only 3 years left.

I have lived here for 35 years.  I don’t remember rain like this in the middle of July ever.

Sorry to hear about the tragedy.

Warren Zevon is ALWAYS appreciated.

Yeah it should be hot and humid, but no rain. If this is a long-term trend, this area is screwed. I’m beginning to think the hill behind my house is gonna let go before this is all over.

My guess is it’s not a long term trend as these rains are breaking record from the 1890's.  Though this spring was also a shitshow.

Yeah it has been crazy this year. Should probably sell house and buy an old car ferry for a houseboat.
